Lots of folks ask us how best to grill round steak. We like our steak steeped and finished with a
flavourful baste. Grill this recipe on the BBQ all summer long and spice things up with a few
tasty variations to the baste. Be warned, if you are cooking downwind, your neighbours are sure
to drop by.
Ingredients
2 lbs McBride's Organic Farm round steak
2 McBride's Organic Farm green onions (sliced thin)
2 McBride's Organic Farm garlic cloves (chopped)
1 c steak sauce
1 T Dijon mustard
Preparation
Combine all the ingredients - except for the steak - to form your marinade and the base of your
BBQ sauce. Tenderize your steak and add 1/4 cup of the sauce. Place the steak and marinade in a
resealable freezer bag and refrigerate overnight. Discard the marinade after a good night's sleep,
pat-dry the steak with a paper towel and season to taste. Now you're ready to cook! Brush on the
reserved BBQ sauce while the grill warms up and grab yourself a cold beverage. For medium-
rare steak grill over medium-high heat for approximately eight minutes per side. Let stand for
five minutes and serve with reserved dipping sauce.
For variations on the BBQ sauce consider the following suggestions that add zing to your reserve
sauce: To make a Tex-Mex chipotle BBQ sauce add 1/3 cup of salsa and 1 T of minced chipotle
peppers. For a little taste of Asia consider adding 2 T of honey and 2 t of minced, fresh ginger.
To make a coulis sauce add 1/4 cup of your favourite fruit preserve and 2 T of either apple or
orange juice.
