hay bales min

 What's Happening at the Farm?

Doug is bringing all the hay bales home to stack and cover – a pretty bad year for hay, with all the rain it was impossible to cut and bale dry. Some is cut and baled at the same time, then wrapped in plastic to store – it ferments and is higher protein and tasty. We don't like all the plastic used, but this year it was really a necessity.

Our carrot crop is lovely, and we should have them in storage until Christmas, or later !!! Hoping for good weather Monday to bring in lots of potatoes to store.

This week's soup is Beet and Red Cabbage – with lots of herbs and fennel – a new recipe that sounds tasty. While looking online for ideas, I found some interesting facts (and some funny non-facts..) about beets – check it out! http://www.hub-uk.com/interesting04/beetroot.htm#facts

Garlic – It has been a poor year for the garlic. We are now cracking (separating) the cloves, so that we can see which cloves have spoiled. It's the only way to know. So if you are ordering garlic, whether for planting or eating, we will be packing separated cloves. If you are planting – it's time to get it in the ground -by the end of October!

Bulk purchases – we have available this year for bulk purchase:
Beets – 25 lb bags are $35.00 – Red Ace or Candycane
Potatoes – Red or Gold - 50 lb bags are $50.00
Carrots – 25 lb bags are $40.00 (available at end of October)
Sorry, no Onions this year, as we only have a small amount.

  • In the Checkout area, fill in Name and Email, use the box for "Special Request" if required, and fill in "Address" if you have chosen "Delivery".
